Why now

A unique moment in policy-making

South Korea was one of the first countries worldwide to build a coordinated industrial policy for alternative proteins — regulation, research funding, infrastructure and economic development working together. A rare chance to observe policy development in real time.

Cultivated meat

The Gyeongbuk Regulatory-Free Special Zone is globally unique: companies can develop and test cultivated meat products without the usual approval barriers — and European companies are already taking advantage of it.

  • Regulatory sandbox for innovation
  • Government investment in infrastructure
  • European companies already present

Plant-based products

Korea is launching a new center for plant-based products in 2026 — another building block of its national alt-protein strategy, with an active search for international partners.

  • National strategy for plant-based agriculture
  • Over 3,000 vegan products already registered
  • Active search for international partners
